Despair is not a feeling.
It is a place.
It is filled
With cold
With numbness
With the absence of hope.
Despair is not a feeling.
It is a vacuum.
It is devoid
Of love
Of peace
Of help.
Despair is not a feeling.
It is what we do
When the world
Collapses
Crushes
Presses.
And yet.
And yet,
Despair is not a feeling.
It is the end.
It is the end
That happens before the end.
Despair is not
A place I want to go.
But hope,
Hope takes more than words.
Hope takes more than
Empty promises
Catchy phrases
Cheering throngs.
Hope takes more
Than we may know sometimes.
Hope takes
Faith
Love
Action.
Hope is more
Than the absence of
Despair.
Hope is not a feeling.
It is everything
Real.

I love how I never know quite what to expect from your blog. You can be hilarious, informative/instructive, and so deep. You do an excellent job at all categories. This poem was beautiful and heavy at the same time. Well done!

Thanks for the lovely compliment! I’m never sure if I’m too all-over-the-map at times, so it’s great to be reassured 🙂
